Demon Child Flashback!!
By The Cook | October 11, 2008

Well, here is my Demon child! Darling? Yes! Adored? Yes! Monster Mess Maker? OH YEAH!!! This is Barrett’s favorite pastime! He climbs up on the piano, sits next to all of their scrapbooks, and then plays the piano with his feet! He is very talented and comes up with many new and “painfully” interesting chord concoctions!!
Yes, that baby is darling, sweet, and loved–but oh my heavens, there is a demonic streak in there somewhere

Microwave Safety!!
By The Cook | October 8, 2008
If your kids are like mine, they learn the buttons on the microwave pretty quickly. My three year old knows which buttons to push to get his popcorn to pop perfectly. So I thought I’d toss out some safety tips for this handy appliance as well!
- Be sure you know what types of dishes can, and cannot, be used safely in the microwave
- Have an adult review correct microwave procedures with you
- If you can’t comfortably reach a microwave, ask an adult for help. never stand on a stool
- Don’t stand in front of microwave while it’s in operation
- Use hot pads to remove the dishes from the microwave
- Keep your face back and turned away when you open covered dishes

The Pumpkin Farm!!
By The Cook | October 6, 2008
What a fun day! We headed to the pumpkin farm nearby–and it was a blast! The kids rode a couple of the rides–one that looked really scary. It did create some “scared little girl” screams from the 10 year old–but so fun to watch! Blake loved the slide. It wasn’t a hard rolling slide like you see at so many carnivals. This was a blow up one that literally bounced you from the top to the bottom. She couldn’t get enough of that one. There were bumper cars and tilt a’whirls–so fun! The kids each chose a pumpkin. Grayson ’s was the biggest weighing in at 27 lbs, with Barrett’s being the smallest–about the size of a softball. They wanted cotton candy–but we decided that we would come home and make our own. Still–it was relatively inexpensive–and we had such fun!

Snugglin’ With Sis!!
By The Cook | October 5, 2008

This is a few years ago. Barrett used to get out of his crib if he didn’t want to sleep (what baby doesn’t) and after putting him back to bed several times, I decided to let him wander his dimly lit room until he got sleepy enough to go back to his bed. After a bit, I went in to check on him only to find that he’d climbed in bed with his sister.
How sweet is that??

Knives!!
By The Cook | October 1, 2008
While cleaning up the kitchen with my son this afternoon, I found that he wasn’t quite as sharp with his “Knife Knowledge” as he should be…so I thought we’d throw up a review…it’s never a bad thing to bone up!
- Don’t handle sharp knives without your parent’s permission
- Cut on a cutting board. Never hold food to be chopped in your hand while you cut
- If you do use a sharp knife, keep your mind on what you are doing
- When you walk with a knife, keep the point facing down
- Hold a sharp knife only by it’s handle–never by the blade
- Never try to catch a falling knife
- Always hold knives with the sharp side down
- When not using knives, place them flat on the counter, back and out of the way
- Cut away from yourself and away from anyone near you
- Never put a sharp knife into a sink to soak with other dishes
- Use knives only for cutting appropriate food
- Always place knives in the dishwasher or drainer with the point down
- Never use a knife that’s too big for you to comfortably handle
