Knives!!
By The Cook | October 1, 2008
While cleaning up the kitchen with my son this afternoon, I found that he wasn’t quite as sharp with his “Knife Knowledge” as he should be…so I thought we’d throw up a review…it’s never a bad thing to bone up!
- Don’t handle sharp knives without your parent’s permission
- Cut on a cutting board. Never hold food to be chopped in your hand while you cut
- If you do use a sharp knife, keep your mind on what you are doing
- When you walk with a knife, keep the point facing down
- Hold a sharp knife only by it’s handle–never by the blade
- Never try to catch a falling knife
- Always hold knives with the sharp side down
- When not using knives, place them flat on the counter, back and out of the way
- Cut away from yourself and away from anyone near you
- Never put a sharp knife into a sink to soak with other dishes
- Use knives only for cutting appropriate food
- Always place knives in the dishwasher or drainer with the point down
- Never use a knife that’s too big for you to comfortably handle
